Since 2009, Gov. Christie and Sen. Sweeney have underfunded public schools by approximately
$1 billion each year. They have refused to run and fund the 2008 school funding formula, known as the School Funding Reform Act (SFRA), which was passed with bipartisan support after significant study and input from education stakeholders, and was upheld by the New Jersey Supreme Court.
Now, both Gov. Christie and Sen. Sweeney have funding proposals that would pit public school students against each other, while even more money is funded to charter schools.
NJEA strongly supports Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto’s school funding reform resolution, ACR-2, and we urge NJEA members to take action to support Prieto and end Gov. Christie and Sen. Sweeney’s partnership to underfund public schools.
Contact your Assembly members and urge them to support Speaker Prieto’s approach to solving the school funding crisis created by Gov. Christie and Sen. Sweeney.
- We have a school funding formula that is supported by New Jersey education stakeholders and the NJ Supreme Court.
- We are tired of Gov. Christie and Sen. Sweeney underfunding public schools by $8 billion.
- Support ACR-2 and run and fund the formula.
